The Need

I was trying to make a quick healthy dinner in 2011 when I asked my daughter Mackenzie to crack some eggs for me to make omelets. She was 11 years old at the time and looked at me like I had two heads!

I realized in that moment that I never took the time to teach Mackenzie how to cook, and that at her age, by comparison, I was able to cook full meals because my mother taught me in the kitchen from the time I was a toddler.

I started teaching Mackenzie and her friends in my home but quickly outgrew my small kitchen.

I moved my classes to a local community center where my first fee-based student had absolutely NO idea that mashed potatoes came from potatoes. He thought they could only come from a box!

It was in that defining moment that I knew I had to do something to change the way our children learn about food, where it comes from, and how it can be prepared.

If I could teach just 10 kids a month, what could this nation's health look like if we had 1,000 or 10,000 instructors teaching just 10 kids a month?

Since then, my vision has never changed. I'm looking to build an army of HHC Certified Cooking instructors - one for every McDonald's Restaurant in the US - about 15,000 instructors.

To us, nutrition isn't about being perfect. It's about setting ourselves up to win by making lots of small, positive choices. You don't have to be a culinary master to be healthy. You don't have to eat weird stuff you've never heard of before. You don't have to stop enjoying food. You don't even have to spend a lot of money. But you do need to make one crucial choice: to eat REAL, good, food.

To fight obesity and related illnesses by empowering and educating children and families in the critical skill of nutrition and healthy cooking so that they can make informed decisions for a lifetime of wellness. To make a difference by offering educational classes through a network of trained and certified cooking instructors who enjoy preparing and eating REAL Good Food.


Since 2012, we have helped more than 550 cooking instructors use our methods to teach tens of thousands of students each month to eat Real Good Food.
